Lara Rivera López, is from Puerto Rico, grew up in Naranjito a small town in the center of the island and has been in the DC area for 20 years. She was driven from a young age to pursue a career in information technology. Lara was interested in technology from a young age and as soon as a computer club was introduced in middle school, she became part of it. Her studies in languages gave another window to explore technologies and increased her interest in the STEM professional path. Lara’s background is diverse. Lara earned her Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages, including French, German and Russian, from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, after which she earned her Master of Arts in Translation from the same university. She also went on to earn her Master of Philosophy in International Peace Studies from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and her Master of Science in Spanish & Linguistics from Georgetown University.
Lara worked while pursuing her graduate degrees, at Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and Accenture providing extensive professional services in different disciplines to develop solutions that meet client needs with a unique combination of expertise in business solutions and language skills. As a former federal employee, she has an understanding of the government working culture and she leverages that knowledge to provide effective recommendations and strategic planning. From 2006 to 2015, she worked for CSC, one of the world’s leading providers of business, legal, tax, and digital brand services to companies and governments around the globe. As CSC split its commercial and government businesses, she became part of CSRA, which in 2018 was acquired by GDIT, one of the world’s leading aerospace and defense multinational corporations. Lara brings extensive functional experience in HR development, training and organizational change management, program management and consulting. Her capabilities include communications, change management, leadership development, proposal writing, business process reengineering, project management, and Agile development.
During her career at CSC/CSRA/GDIT, Lara has provided strategic consulting services and business development opportunities to several public sector agencies including the National Geospatial Agency (NGA), the Army, Defense Intelligence (DIA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), The Department of Treasury, General Services Administration (GSA), the Department of State (DoS), and various Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies such as USCIS, TSA and FEMA. Lara enjoys working with her fantastic colleagues at GDIT and is looking forward to continue collaboration on exciting opportunities.
Lara was the recipient of CSC NBS President’s Award for Leadership. Additionally, Lara was recognized at the NPS level with a CSC NPS Recognition (President’s) Award. She was recently recognized as a GDIT Star Performer Award and GDIT ForWARD ERG’s Volunteer of the Year. Lara was also selected as part of the GDIT Talent Acquisition Video Campaign to share her experiences as a GDIT Employee and ERG Leader as well as being featured in GDIT’s Connect and Twitter Employee Spotlights general campaign and well as on a Spotlights Series on Hispanics in commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month. She is also a 2011, 2012 and 2015 WIT Leadership Award finalist for the Unsung Hero and Corporate Public Sector categories – demonstrating that Lara’s accomplishments and efforts are valued well beyond GDIT.
